I'm a longtime BreezeBrowser Pro user, wondering if PhotoMechanic has one particular feature that I find invaluable.
BBPro allows the user to toggle "High Quality" view on and off. This will apply sharpening to the screen view (not to the actual file). It makes whipping through files way faster, as you don't have to guess what the photo could look like after sharpening is applied. My cameras are set with low sharpening and low contrast, and most of my images are made at iso 1600 or higher. The jpeg embedded in the raw file is thus rather soft. Without the "high quality" feature in BBPro, it'd be very hard to tell if I nailed focus, froze motion sufficiently, etc. Having to magnify the image to 100% is not as good, and certainly much slower.
I cannot find any solid information regarding the presence or absence of a similar feature in PhotoMechanic. It's not mentioned in the user guide, or in the video tutorials. I've seen some mention of preview sharpening in forum discussions.
Would someone - even better, someone with experience using BBPro as well - please tell me if the PhotoMechanic screen view in Preview mode has a sharpening feature?
