« on: July 28, 2012, 11:48:50 AM »
Photo Mechanic 5 Windows Release Candidate "delete metadata" feature from the Tools menu dont seems to work on Windows 7.
It does not delete EXIF and IPTC.

Is this a know bug ?

It is not known to us.  We'll have to investigate.  What file formats did you use the tool on where it failed to work?

Windows 7 Pro, PM5 build13057 (acc29f8)

I had just used delete metadata yesterday and it appeared to work.  I tried it a bit ago on a PSD file deleting all metadata and EXIF and IPTC were deleted.  The PM apparently caches a bit of the info as some items appeared to still be present. I exited PM (I always delete the cache on exit) and restarted and everything was gone.

I then checked with ExifTool the only meta data it saw was file info and some it attributed to Photoshop.

Used the delete metadata on a jpg file format.
On d contact sheet, applied the delete metadata (exif n iptc)
Went into Preview Page window. Exif and iptc Data still showing.

Could it be the cache? Will try again later n check the data with photoshop

One at at time I deleted EXIF and then checked with ExifTool and EXIF data was gone.  Then IPTC and ExifTool indicated IPTC was gone.  However, PM was still indicating IPTC data present. It apparently was XMP data because when I deleted that, PM did not show IPTC data any longer. BTW, this was on a jpg file.

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature...or perhaps depends on your configuration of IPTC/XMP under preferences.

Jerry, U are correct! :) Just tested the 'delete metadata'. Inside PM5 preview window, i still see some data.
Loaded it up in photoshop, all the info not there anymore.

Kirk, why is that so ? PM5 not clearing the cache ?

Quite possibly a bug.  Please be patient.  We're looking into the issue.

I am unable to reproduce this issue on my internal build of PM 5 with JPEGs that came from a Canon 20D.  As soon as I use the Delete Metadata tool and go back into the Preview window (I deleted the metadata from the Contact Sheet) I see that the EXIF data and IPTC data are gone.  Other data like serial number that is represented in the Maker Note isn't deleted and isn't offered as an option to delete is still there.

Perhaps if you show me before and after screen shots it may help me figure out what is going on.

Thanks,

-Kirk

From the screenshots above, u can see most of the exif are cleared EXCEPT Model, Serial #, Firmware
(i've circled them in red)

I need to close/clear the entire contact sheet and reload. Then everything will dissapear.
Screen below.

I noticed that you had the image displayed in the Preview window before you stripped the EXIF data.  Afterwards you go back into the Preview window, and the same image is displayed.  What happens if you simply advance to the next picture and then come back to the first picture.  Is the problem corrected?

Thanks,

-Kirk

Kirk,

Nope. Advance to the next picture then come back still the 3 elements (Model, Serial #, Firmware) remains.
I need to close preview window and also close the contact sheet then reopen a new contact sheet. Then everything will dissapear

Glenn,

I was able to reproduce the problem on my Windows 7 system and have fixed the problem.  The next build will no longer have this issue.

Thanks,

-Kirk
