Renaming Files

I am using PM v4.6.9. on Windows XP.

I want to rename some photos as follows:  40 images currently have their original file names and need to be changed to a new name with a sequence number series  e.g. London 001, London 002 ...............London 040.

How can I achieve this without needing to apply the {seqn} as required in the Rename Photos dialog box?  It seems that I have to enter a sequence number of at least 01.

The files are renamed as follows:   London 00101, London 00201, London 00301  ..  etc.    Can't I rename files without having to apply a sequence number?

What are their current file names?

You can simply enter:

London {seqn}

And change the Sequence number to 001

This will produce files named: London 001, London 002, London 003, ... London 040

Isn't that what you want?

Yes, that is what I want.  The trouble is; the new file numbers always have an additional couple of numbers eg, London 020 becomes London 02001,  London 023 becomes London 02301. etc.

If I set the {seqn} before the new file name the result is;  032 London 01,  037 London 01 and so on.

This is because you either have naming conflicts with other images in the folder, or you have specifically set your preferences in the Files section of the Photo Mechanic Preferences dialog to always append digits when renaming.

Check your Preferences.
