Selecting any menu to pull down hangs PhotoMechanic

I'm running 4.4.3.3 on a Windows 7 laptop.

When I open PM I can see images as contact sheets are loaded through the folder/favorites sidebar but any attempt to access any menu item results in PM hanging. I've had this laptop for over a year now with no issues so I'm pretty certain it's not Windows 7 but possibly some other program that's been updated related to Win7.

I get the same thing if I just open PM with no contact sheet open.

I appear to be able to use the functions that I know the shortcuts for but selecting any menu item locks it up.

Any ideas on where to start looking?

PM 4.4.x is very old and is not compatible with Windows systems beyond Windows XP.  PM 5.0 is the current version and is compatible with Windows 7.
