Ratings won't stick for Canon S100
« on: October 30, 2012, 07:36:17 PM »
I found a bug in Photo Mechanic 5.0 build 13444 (c5a5ad3) running on Mac OS X 10.7.5.

When trying to rate .cr2 raw files from a Canon S100, the star rating doesn't stay visible in Photo Mechanic. An XMP file is produced that has data for the proper rating, it just doesn't show up. I posted a quick video of the behavior here (http://screencast.com/t/AejxKiFP). It also shows an image from a Canon 5Dii where the star rating works as expected.

I've uploaded the sample file that I use using from the Canon S100 here (http://alanwsmith.com/pm-test/aws-20121001--0914-02) if that helps.

Thanks,
- Alan

Please post a screen shot of your IPTC/XMP settings from the Preferences dialog.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

Thanks,

-Kirk

I started messing around in the preference and solved it. I changed the "For TIFF-based RAW photos search in the following order:" to look for "Read XMP sidecar file" for the "First" option. After doing that, the stars stay active in the Photo Mechanic display. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

That was going to be my suggestion as well.
