Photo Mechanic 5 continues to ask for registration
« on: November 16, 2012, 12:21:41 PM »
After upgrading to version 5, Photo Mechanic asks for registration every time I start the program.

I HAVE tried to start it from a user with administrator privileges, as other has suggested, but for me this don't make any difference.

I use Windows 7, 64 bit.

Any ideas?

Thank you

And you registered it when you were running from an Admin account?

Yes.

I try to register every time I start.
The program does start.
Then I close it and try to start it again.
And then again it asks for name, code again.
I have tried this many times now.
It looks like it never is registered although it accepts my code.

Do you have the following path on your system:

C:\ProgramData\Camera Bits, Inc\Photo Mechanic

If so, check the Properties on each part of the path and make sure you have write access permissions.

If you don't have that path, try creating it and then try registering again.

Kirk

Thank you for the suggestion

I have given the user administrator rights.

The path exists. And the user has all rights. I have checked each part.

But unfortunately, the situation is unchanged.

Soren,

Thank you for the suggestion

Can you create a text file in the above path with something like Notepad?

I am having the same problem as SorenK.  The path mentioned exists, and I can successfully create a text file.  I am also on Win7/64 bit.  I notice after I register, that my name is shown in the about box as being the licensee but when I close the program and re-run, the license info in the splash screen is blank.

This morning I tried the same version (v5.0 build 13444) on a machine without previous installations of Photo Mechanic v4.x already installed.  It licensed fine without exhibiting this behavior.  Perhaps part of the cause of this problem, therefore, is having 4.x installed when installing v 5.0?

The result found by JCSheeron is consistent with my result as I have a V4.6.7 installed before i upgraded to the V5.0 build 13444.

Then there might be a workaround deinstalling earlier versions before installing V5.0. But the question is if the deinstall procedure removes everything.

Can the support team give some useful recommndations?

Try renaming the current PM4.6.x registration file.   It should be named com.camerabits.photomechanic.registration so rename it by adding a 'x' to the start of the name.  PM will no longer recognize the registration and will create a new file.

Thanks Kirk.  I did as you suggested, and renamed the registration.  As a result, a new one was created, and this appears to have fixed the problem.  The registration is now persistent.

In case it helps, the file on the two machines I tried was located here:

C:\ProgramData\Camera Bits, Inc\Photo Mechanic

Thank you JCSheeron

In the folder i found just one file, with another name:
com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.XML

After renaming this as described by Kirk, it all seems to work. ;D
