Kirk, Color class set, then edited on the card in PS CS5, and saved back to card as a copy.

No, just browse the card, set a color class to any color of your choosing (other than 'none) and then post the file directly from the card.  Do not edit with Photoshop.  You didn't mention editing with Photoshop in your original post so I'd like to leave it out of the test.

Thanks,

Just set the color class on the card and did nothing else.  Sorry when I saw your post "OK, so can you now edit the image on the card ..." I thought you wanted an edited image on the Card.

Sorry for the confusion.

Here is the metadata contained in the file:

<?xpacket begin="" id="W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d"?>
<x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="XMP Core 5.1.2">
 <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#">
  <rdf:Description rdf:about=""
    xmlns:photoshop="http://ns.adobe.com/photoshop/1.0/"
    xmlns:xmp="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/"
    xmlns:photomechanic="http://ns.camerabits.com/photomechanic/1.0/"
    xmlns:aux="http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux/"
   photoshop:DateCreated="2013-02-03T14:10:59-05:00"
   xmp:Label="Winner alt"
   xmp:Rating="0"
   photomechanic:ColorClass="2"
   photomechanic:Tagged="True"
   photomechanic:Prefs="1:2:0:006077"
   photomechanic:PMVersion="PM5"
   aux:ImageNumber="6077"/>
 </rdf:RDF>
</x:xmpmeta>

It should definitely show up with color class two for any user browsing this image with Photo Mechanic unless somehow PM5's Sort Cache is getting in the way.

After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Try this:

Close the contact sheet tab that is browsing the card.
Open the Preferences dialog and go to the Caching section.
Click on the "Empty Now" button in the Sort Cache box.
Open the card again as a contact sheet.

Did that make any difference?

Kirk- Will let you know when I go to work tonight.  On the way now.  Don't see how that  would affect it.  The machine was completely powered down, so that would flush the cache, correct?

No.  The Sort Cache persists beyond PM actively running.

Cleared the cache and then did my normal workflow (as described above).  Issue persists.  Color codes from the first half of a basketball game were on the card and then ingested.  Come in after the second half and all the color codes were gone.  Tags remain.   :(

Did you reset the cache after you returned to your computer before you mounted the card?

If so then I need one of the files that is on the card that no longer shows its color class.  Please post it when you can.

If not, close the contact sheet, clear the Sort Cache and open the card again.

Machine restarted, opened PM, cleared all the caches, (disc and sort), mounted the card and color code was gone.  Appears that it could be card related.  The color code does not stay on the two 8GB LEXAR 800x cards I used.   They did copy over on the LEXAR 600x card I used on my third body.  Also did not work with a SanDisc Extreme (60MB/sec) card.  Just an FYI for you.

Kirk - Used different cards last night at basketball.  The issue is ongoing.  Any progress on identifying the root cause on you end?

No.  Every file you have given me has embedded XMP data in it and the XMP tags specify a color class correctly.

If you take the card to a different computer and browse it, is the color class set?

Kirk - In an earlier post, I stated " It is also not platform specific. Does it on my Mac with Mountain Lion and my Windows 7, intel based machine."

About to go back to an earlier build of PM 5.  This just started with the latest build.  Although the Color Class shows up in the Metadata, the color is not displayed when looking at the tagged images.  Let me know what else you need.  Thanks.
