Full resolution preview
« on: February 25, 2013, 08:06:02 AM »
Hi guys,
I have just downloaded the PM 5 Demo, just to give it a try.
First of all, coming from lightroom, DAMN its quick! :o

But here: http://www.camerabits.com/products/edit/ it says I should be able to preview FULL resolution previews.
The previews I get are only 50% of the full resolution (not enough to properly see difference between sharp enough and tack sharp). I looked in every settings tab but I just can't find a way to change it. Or is this a limitation of the demo?

Thanks

Hi!

In the preview windows on the right side you can use the slider to change the zoom ratio.
Or you can use + and - keys to zoom in and out.

To go back to latest zoom-factor or the "normal" (fit to window) view simply press "Z"...

Hi Steven,

Thanks for you reply.
I did found that out. But at 100% the magnification is equal to 50% in PS and LR.
200% in PM matches to the 100% setting of PS and LR. But at 200% it all pixelated, not useful for checking sharpness.
Is there a way to change the preview resolution?

Steven? Who is Steven? :D

Are you using RAW images?
If yes: Not all RAWs contain full size JPG previews.
You can go to the preferences of PM and then to the RAW section.

Enable the RAW rending there and try again.

Hmmm, OK...

Seems to be the case that no full size JPG in contained in the RAW then.
I currently have no windows box to test it.

Please wait for Kirk to get some more detailed answer.

Thanks for the help Sven, I will.

Is there a setting on your 40D that will increase the resolution of the embedded JPEG on your CR2s?  On my Canon 5D Mark II there is a setting and I can make it full resolution.

Another option is to shoot in RAW+JPEG and PM will show the pair of images as single image and will use the JPEG for image preview purposes.
Beyond that you could convert your CR2s to DNG files and have the DNG Converter embed full resolution previews and PM will use them.

Kirk,
the 40D does not have this option.

Alrighty.  Well there are the other two options then.  Neither of which is completely ideal however.
