iptc captions disappear.
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:58:14 AM »
Hi
I have just purchased Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 13764 (7b2b451).
I select my CR2 raw images in the browser and add the IPTC Caption. I then aquire the images to edit then save them as jpegs. During this process the Image content details disappear but the Image Rights remain. If I wait until all editing is complete and images are saved as jpegs then add the captions then they remain. Is there a solution for this as it was never an issue before I upgraded.
Regards

Are you editing on your camera card(s)?  If so, the ability to write to camera cards is turned off by default.  If you wish to continue to edit on your cards then you need to open up the Preferences dialog, switch to the Files section and set the 'Allow modification of files on Camera Disks ( not recommended ! )" and agree to the warning dialog.

If you're not editing on your card(s) then please list the steps you're doing that reproduces the problem.

Hi Kirk,
I am not editing on the cards.
I plug my card into laptop(Mac) and a browser opens with images I highlight the ones I want then I open IPTC stationary pad.
All the Image Rights Info is already there and stays there.
I enter image content, description caption, headline then click apply stationary to selected.
It is at this point if I go back into caption, the headline and caption are missing but Image rights are there.
I now click to edit the images, crop, colour balance etc, then save as jpegs.
The caption is still not there. If I now aquire the saved jpegs in the browser and add the caption they then appear properly.
It seems that the captions won't attach to raw images, but that doesn't explain the copyright part being there.
Very confusing

Can I see a screen shot of your IPTC/XMP settings in the Preferences dialog?
Can I see a screen shot of your IPTC Stationery Pad, showing the various fields you're working with?
Can I see a screen shot of your IPTC Info dialog showing the fields missing?

Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshots.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hi Kirk, It said you could send up to eight images but that did not happen so I have attached all to one image.
Hope this works

Alan,

One adjustment I'd make is in the IPTC/XMP dialog in the Reading section for TIFF-based RAW files.  Set it to read embedded XMP first, then embedded IPTC second.  You're not embedding IPTC so it does not make sense to try to read embedded IPTC first.

In the Save As dialog are you applying IPTC Stationery?

Hi Kirk,
I think I have made the correct adjustments but with no luck. Have attached a screen grab of the adjustment I made.

Also set JPEG, TIFF, PSD, DNG to read embedded XMP before IPTC.

Hi Kirk,
Have changed JPEG, TIFF, PSD, DNG to read embedded XMP before IPTC.
Still not getting captions.

Then I'm going to need some sample files from you.  I'll need one of your CR2 files that you have added metadata to and a screen shot of your Save As dialog settings.  If you can't upload your CR2 file, contact me privately and I'll give you FTP server info so you can upload your CR2 file to us directly.

I need the CR2 that produces the JPEG and a screen shot of the Save As dialog showing your settings (no need for any further IPTC dialog screen shots).  I'm going to be away for a few hours (it's the weekend after all).  I'll pick this up with you later this afternoon.

Not a problem.
I was wondering what hours you worked.
Go and relax.
