Viewing the resolution of files within contact sheet

While previewing an image inside a contact sheet, is there the ability to view the file resolution?

Sure.  Add a thumbnail label in the Contact Sheet section of the Preferences dialog.  You can use {variables} like:

{resolution}
{resolutioncms}
{resolutioninches}
{width}
{height}
(or others you see fit to use)

and they'll be displayed under each thumbnail in the Contact Sheet.
