Question about editing
« on: March 28, 2013, 12:31:31 AM »
I'm new to PM, so please excuse a simple question.

After editing images in PS, I am not seeing the changes in the contact sheet, nor am I seeing them if I copy/move the images (retaining them in raw format).

I am using the Windows version

Thanks

Hi!

Go the preferences, contact sheet and select "Atomatically rescan when folder contents change".
Then restart PM

After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Thanks Sven,

I do not have that option under contact sheet. The manual shows 5 options under "behavior" and I only have 2.

I am using v 5

I think, since PS is working not destructible and You keep/move the Rawfiles, PM can not see the changes. Should be the same in Windows and Mac.

Photo Mechanic does not render RAW files and as such it cannot show you the adjustments made in the Adobe Camera RAW plugin to RAW files.  Adobe does not update the embedded preview in the RAW files that it adjusts and so only Adobe apps can show you the adjustments.  Only the DNG format (a publicly documented RAW file format) is updated with the adjusted preview.  So if you want to see your adjustments in PM after you make them in an Adobe application you'll have to convert to DNG first.

Thanks, understood.

Can PM convert to DNG at the ingest stage?

No.  But you can convert to DNG with the Convert RAW to DNG... command on the Tools menu:

The Nikon NEF RAW format does display edits/changes when processed and saved in Capture NX2.  There are no side car files associated with the NEF when it is edited/processed this way.  That's a MAJOR reason I do not use LR or ACR for RAW editing and do use PM for all my sorting and organizing...PM is wonderful!!!
