Ok, I saw someone suggesting a search default/snapshot feature back in v 4.6 but thought I'd request it again now at v5 with the added request of "remember last search".
I use the search feature all the time to retrieve RAW files from my system to retouch and deliver to clients, and typically do a search for "filename contains any", inserting a file list generated by client input from our server. It would be nice not having to set the search parameters to "filename contains any" every time - so I think it would be a great improvement to speed up the workflow if PM would:
1. Remember the last used settings
and/or
2. Allow for a default setting
and/or
3. Allow for search parameter presets/snapshots (as opposed to the current "Favorite" feature, which works fine for a specific set of images across folders, but doesn't work when you want to constantly change the criteria inside the filename field)
Any one of these would help, all three would be fantastic! :-)
With you 100% on this. Waaaaaaay back when I used to use Extensis Portfolio at the newspaper (I think version 8 was the last one I ever used). After discovering PM I never looked back as everything about it was a significant improvement, with one exception; the search function in Portfolio was nicer because it did exactly what you describe, which is different than PM's current "Favourites" feature.
All you had to do in Portfolio was hit Command-S and start typing. Your saved default search parameters (in my case "filename - contains - any") were set up for you, and the curser was even in the text box ready to go (having the curser already in the text box may seem like a minor detail, but it makes searching FAST). Also, you could save as many different sets of search parameters as you wanted, and they were all only one click away in a drop down list in the same dialog box. As much as I hated Portfolio for many reasons, I must admit I still can't think of a faster or simpler way to handle searches.
I absolutely love PM, but I'm happy to hear searches are being re-worked in the future cataloging system. So to the PM developers working hard on the new cataloging system I offer the above as my 2 cents worth... I sure hope we end up with something as simple as the "Command-S and start typing" approach.
