Batch edit selected Photos
« on: July 09, 2013, 01:21:27 PM »
Hi,

maybe there were some further requests for that, and I think I know the answer for this, but I want to do a new try.

I want to batch edit single fields for selected pictures. I know I can do the with the stationary pad, but if i miss to clear and reload my template, all new ingested pictures will applied the wrong field contents.

Maybe we can think about a batch function which opens a stationary showing all identical fields, leaving all others blank.
Every field now filled by the user will be batch edited for the selection.

I think it would be a helpfull point for the right-click-menue, and maybe there should also be a shortcut. CMD+Shift+B or so...

Regards,
fg

If you switch your Ingest options over to "Use Local IPTC Stationery" it will only apply what is seen in the IPTC Pad you open in that dialog. The "normal" IPTC Pad you use to edit already ingested photos is different.

Will that solve part of the issue?

hi Kevin,

I know what you mean, but that won't help me out.

local pad only appears in the ingest dialogue, but at that moment, some information are not known.
just let me tell you what happens in my workflow:

Ingest-->
1. Start Ingest
2. Basic IPTC Information are set to find the originals of that event
3. Selection of some photos
4. copy that selection to a subfolder with rename (important, because thats the way my pictures get a ongoing sequence number)
5. apply stationary pad to pictures in the subfolder (second important step because my agency wants to have the filename in one of the iptc fields, so i use the variable filenamebas in this iptc-field.)
6. editing blablabla
....
7. captioning starts-->sometimes there are groups of pictures showing the same person are scene. so i have 6 x 5 pictures and i dont want to open 6 times the stationary pad and change the text, i want to mark one group of pictures and say "batch caption". a clean pad opens, i enter my information and say "wohoo gogogo do it yeeeehaw" (some kind of that way ;) ).

and now to the point:
the event isnt finished yet--> I start with step #1 and no mistakes will happen because my basic information for step #5 hasn't change.

here's an example:

player 1 scores a goal for his team and celebrates this with his team.
i have 5 pictures, 5 scenes showing player 1 cheering with the other guys of his team. during captioning, a new scene happens, i throw the card in my card reader, start the ingest, copy (...) but in step 5 i have a problem, because (with the actual behavior/usage) I would have changed the stationary pad information to "player 1 scores a goal for his team and celebrates this with his team." and all pictures copied in step #5 now say "player 1 scores a goal for his team and celebrates this with his team.".

and now at the end of that all i know how the function i want to have is called: a non destructable batch dialogue :)
