Sort by Unsupported File Format
« on: September 19, 2013, 06:08:58 AM »
WHen reviewing Archive Drives I sometimes come across corrupted files.
They show as black images with Usupported File Format written in Red.
Is there a way I can select or sort these images so I can replace them from Back Ups....

Hmm.  No.  The contact sheet does not know which images failed to load, it just gets an image back from the cache that happens to be mostly black (with the exception of the red text on it.)

I'd suggest that when you see these happening, you use some sort of disk utility to scan the drive for errors and make sure it isn't failing before you copy anything to it.

Understood,
verification/validation is extremely time consuming on a regular basis for 10 terabytes of images.
In order for PM to label the image is there no way for PM to log that event?
Am I the only person worried about this or is there an easy external solution I'm unaware of
Thanks Kirk,
Marc

I'd suggest using a system of checksumming and verification of checksums as an automated task.  It would be very tedious to do it any other way.

It should be logging the errors into its PM.log file as they occur.

What OS are you running?  I'm sure there are freeware tools available for your OS that will take a directory full of files, build a list of checksums (saving it for later comparison) and then will later allow you to check to see if any of the files have changed.  When you have your list of changed files, try and open them up in PM or some other image editing/processing app.

Here is a tool that works on Mac OS X and Windows (two separate download versions) :

http://www.implbits.com/HashTab.aspx

I have not tried it myself but it is well-rated.
