Will LR strip PM's metadata? How prevent?
« on: January 10, 2014, 05:27:16 AM »
How do I prevent LR5 from stripping or overwriting my Photo Mechanic metadata and just add its own post-processing metadata?

A secondary question is that with some images I render the raw in Photo Ninja and export a TIFF (which I then import to LR).

Again - How do I prevent LR5 from overwriting metadata applied by Photo Mechanic and Photo Ninja?

Many thanks !!!!!

For best coexistence with LR, make sure you have PM write its metadata in an XMP file (See Preferences, IPTC/XMP). Then make sure you have LR update the XMP file whenever you change anything (by default LR is usually configured to keep these changes into its own database). This should be selectable in the LR preferences (don't have a LR system available at the moment so can't check exactly where).

There's a sample on how to set the PM IPTC/XMP settings in the wiki as well (if you can't find it I'm sure Kirk knows where it is)

Hope this helps,

Yes, there are even some presets now in the IPTC/XMP settings. If you click the lightning bolt on the IPTC/XMP settings dialog, you'll get to see some presets for common 3rd party editing programs.
