Preview resolution is thumbnail

System: MacBook Pro Retina + Thunderbolt 27" display  OSX 10.9.1  PM 5 / 15277

I had this problem before so I'm not sure if it's pilot error or a bug.

The Preview for raw (NEF) files is just the thumbnail resolution, not full resolution.

Preferences are:

High DPI Display Quality:  Best

Enable Raw rendering ON (using Apple ImageIO)
Raw + JPG:  Render RAW for Preview if possible
Raw: Render RAW for Preview if possible

So why am I seeing only thumbnail resolution?

So why am I seeing only thumbnail resolution?

What happens if you view the same NEF file with the Preview application?  Does it show a small image?

Unless you really like the Apple ImageIO rendering then I suggest always using the embedded JPEG previews for your RAW files.  Switching your preferences to use JPEGs in both cases should also make Photo Mechanic far more responsive.

Found the problem.  These are some old photos and it was from my wife's old Nikon point/shoot (5700); the raw format is not supported by Apple.

BTW, the performance of rendering raw for Previews on the MBPr is no problem.  I remember testing an early version of PM for the retina display and there was a considerable lag, but that's no longer an issue.
