No more Autorotation after Update to 5.0 build 15419
« on: March 27, 2014, 06:39:39 AM »
Hi,

after updating to the newest PM v5 build 15419 (Win) copied, moved or ingested pictures are not autorotated anymore. After discovering this on my desktop I tried PM on my laptop which was still running on v5 build 15277 and everything was fine. After the update the same pictures were not rotated anymore during copying, moving or ingesting. Therefore I believe it's an issue with the current update.

I tested on my Win 8.1. x64 Desktop and Win 7 x64 laptop and both showed the same problem.

Any ideas?

regards
Oliver

Edit: Camera used was a Nikon D3s

Oliver,

What is the source of these images?  Direct from the camera card (out of your Nikon D3s) or have they been processed already in PM or other software?

Pictures come straight from the camera to the cardreader to computer. Nothing has been done to them. Like I wrote I tried the same set of pictures first with build 15277 and everything worked as usual. After updating but not changing any settings the same pictures were not rotated anymore.

I had no issues last night with vertical images out of a Canon 1D Mark IV.

I tested Ingest with my Canon 5D Mark II shooting CR2 RAW files and the image showed up soft-rotated in the Contact Sheet.

Is this happening only with JPEGs?

My files were NEF only. I will try my other cameras and post the results just now.

EDIT: I just tried NEF files from my D700 and a Nikon V1 and no autorotation with both cameras.

I just tried RAW+JPEG and both were soft-rotated, even when I forced them to display separately.  I'll try JPEG-only next.

JPEG-only shooting produced a soft-rotated image.

Can you give me some sample images?  If you can reproduce the problem on a JPEG, then you could upload a sample here directly.  Otherwise I can give you our FTP server info (or you can upload your sample somewhere and give me a link.)

Thanks,

-Kirk

I have just tried jpg files from my V1 and they are in the correct orientation once copied on my PC via PM.

OK, then can you provide me with a NEF sample (direct from the card, and the same file after PM copies it)?  I'll send you a personal message with the FTP server details.

Thanks,

Here are my IPTC/XMP Setting. They have remained unchanged for a long time so nothing have been done to them after the update.

I've been having the same problem with RAW files from my Olympus OM-D E-M1 and E-M5 not rotating on Photo Mechanic since the last update.

The problem must be in the way Photo Mechanic is ingesting RAW files from the Olympus cameras because the original RAW files direct from card are shown correctly rotated in OSX finder, whereas if I look at the files after being copied by Photo Mechanic they don't show up rotated on OSX finder..

Here's a link to download RAW and JPEG files from the two Olympus. The files that where ingested via Photo Mechanic have PM in the filename: http://we.tl/uJsBPasAAl

PS - RAW files from both my Nikon D3 and Sony RX100 are rotated properly.

FIY, I'm using a iMac with OSX 10.9.2 and Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 15419 (aa634dd)

I have been able to reproduce the problem on my Macs with CR2 and NEF files.  If you go to the IPTC/XMP preference page and un-check the box to Allow raw files to be modified, then the soft rotation flag will be preserved when Ingesting or copying files with the Stationary Pad applied.

Thanks Bob, I will try it the way you suggested.

But doesn't this mean that no IPTC info will be written directly into my NEF file like it used to do? Since I sometimes still have to use Nikon's software I'd prefer to write the basic infos into the file. Will a future update correct this back to the old behaviour?

Oliver
