Send photos via Apple iMessage
« on: May 10, 2014, 08:06:41 AM »
Hello!

I am using your Mac App Photo Mechanic and it works great. I am especially pleased with its speed and opening RAW files. Much faster than Aperture, and use PM as pre-reviewing software before importing photos into Aperture.

Here comes a suggestion for PM:
One feature that would be great to have, would be if it would be possible from inside your App send one or more photos directly via iMessage. That is, have the images converted to JPEG (if they are RAW) on the fly in RAM and I guess an option to reduce the images on the fly in RAM before sending them via iMessage. Like full JPEG format, 50%, 25% etc and/or at certain pre-choosen pixel sizes, like 1024x768, 1280x960, etc

This way, one could easily send one or more photos via Apples iMessage to others when one see great photos one would like to share with other from within PM, but not like/need to use Flickr, Facebook and Twitter for sharing.

Basically getting a similar dialog box from within PM as you have today for the menu option “Send Photos via Email”, but now for iMessage.

Keep up the good work!

Best regards

Lars

Lars,

From what I can tell there is no public API for working with the iMessage system.  I found this discussion on adding a similar feature to Adium:

https://trac.adium.im/ticket/15515

Apparently the inner workings of the system are supported by a private framework called IMCore.  If Apple ever makes that a public framework then we could consider your request.

Kirk,

Thanks for your reply.

These guys seems to have been able to solve this:
http://www.globaldelight.com/voila/

Inside their Mac App called “Voila” (it’s a screenshot App) available from the MAS, they have a menu option called “Messages”.

Which is located under “Share >> Publish >> Messages” inside their App, which allow me to send one or more images inside their Voila App via Apples iMessages. And it works! Since I use this Voila App.

So, somehow, under this “Publish” menu inside their App, they have managed to solve this and are able to tap into the iMessage system.

Regards

Lars

It is likely that they're using Apple's private IMCore framework.  We won't use private frameworks.
