a problem with "save as"
« on: June 20, 2014, 01:17:51 PM »
I am unable to obtain a jpg with a limited size with "save as". Every time the result is too much big.

In the dialog I put
JPEG Quality low, and limit size 300,00
and I get  575 !

Thanks for help.

Soizic,

Have you already tried setting the quality slider to 0?
PM's save as work so that it will never create a jpg below the specified quality, so the way to guarantee the size is to specify 0 as quality, then PM will be able to create your jpg at the required size.

Hope this helps,

And, even at quality zero, it is still quite impossible to be able to create a file size for a high megapixel count image if the desired file size is extremely low.  For instance, if you have a 20 megapixel image, you're not going to be able to make it be 150KB even at quality zero.  You'll have to scale the image to a smaller pixel count as well as limit the size.

I understand that, but my picture is already smaller than the original.
Beginning with  2000 x 2000 pixels, 2,2 Mo

with  "jpeg low  and limit size 300"
I obtain 2000 x 2000   2,6 Mo

Another test with the same picture, same parameters, just a différence : "to fit box 400"
I abtain 89 Ko

I have to work with PS to obtain a picture whose limit size is 300 max.

Not convenient ! What is the good way ?

Soizic,

I don't understand "JPEG low" The quality slider is a percentage. Perhaps posting a screenshot of your save as settings will help. With an image of 2000pixels it should be possible to get an image of just 300kB, I think.

Cheers,

Did you set the JPEG Quality slider all the way to the left?

A JPEG screen shot showing your settings would be most helpful.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

Thanks,

(originale 3000 x 3000  size 5,7 Mo)
This original is already reduced to 2000x 2000 great quality 4,3 Mo

I save this reduced , I suppose it is too big… the result is as big as the depart
Sorry !

Soizic,

Right, now it's clear what's wrong. You limit the size to 300MB, not 300kB like you intend. If you fill in 0.3 instead of 300 you should get the results you're after  ;)
