Card crashes on new MacBook Pro

Hello Kirk.
When i insert the SanDisk Extreme Pro udma7 16GB card in my MacBook Retina 15”, media 2014 2,8GHz IntelCore i7 running OSX 10.9.4 PM 5 15800, with my new SanDisk Image mate All-In-One USB3 Card reader, and try to ingest or copy the pictures  the computer says I did not eject the card properly, and the card  will not function. I can see the pictures if i use iPhoto but i can´t import the pictures, when i try the same thing happens. The same card will function if I use a SanDisk 8-1 USB 2 card reader on the same computer. I have talked to Apple and SanDisk but no help, maybe Camera Bits can help me?

Hi Kim,

Sounds like you have a hardware problem. Perhaps a faulty card reader, perhaps there's a problem with your mac. I suggest you try out the card reader on a different mac or windows computer. If it works there, the problem is with your mac, otherwise it is the card reader.

This is not something Camerabits can help you with I'm afraid.

Have you tried asking SanDisk if their "SanDisk Image mate All-In-One USB3 Card reader" is compatible with your computer and OS?

I will ask them at once. In the meantime I bought a USB 3 card reader from inline, I can now see the pictures in PM and copy them to a folder, but I can´t  ingest them, the program stops as soon as i press the ingest button.

"Stops" as in the Ingest does nothing, or does PM crash/quit spontaneously?

The ingest menu disappears instantly, but the card icon stays on the desktop.

OK, but PM continues to run and will let you do other tasks?  It sounds like from the perspective of the file system, your card has no photos on it.  If you browse it with the Finder, do folders and files (images) appear on the card?

I can drag and drop the card on the PM icon, and the photos will show in a contact sheet and i can copy them into a folder.

Can you take a screen grab of your Ingest dialog showing your settings, just before you start the Ingest?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

What happens if you un-check the "Incremental Ingest: copy new photos only" check box and try again?

Yes, now i can ingest :-) Thank you very much. And strangely the SandDisk card reader now also works fine.

Ah, Good to hear.  Perhaps the first time it simply wasn't connected properly. That would explain the message about not ejected properly. I have a similar problem with one of my usb3 cables; I really have to make sure it is connected properly otherwise it won't recognise the connected device.
