IPTC Stationary Pad - GPS coordinates

Hello,

I read the forum and found old topics about the non possibility of importing gps data from a code replacement file. Perhaps something changed since then, so better ask the question here.

- Dummy as I was, I exported my RAW files to JPG;
- I added GPS data and image description to those JPG files;
- I came to the conclusion that I can better work in the RAW files;
- So now I want to put the IPTC data back from the JPG to the RAW files;
- I managed to that with the description, title, author, etc. by using the IPTC Stationary Pad

How to import the GPS data from the tab separated txt file that I made? (see attachment)

If you now have RAW+JPEG pairs, you can use this tool in PM to do the work for you:

Thanks for your quick reply. I have JPG-RAW pairs. Which paragraph in the User Manual Flat View are you referring to?

- I have the RAW + JPG file combined in a single thumbnail;
- right click on thumbnail - show map: the JPG image is shown on the map with the proper GPS coordinates
- How to copy / synchronize the GPS data from the JPG file to the RAW file?

There is an item in the Tools menu in Photo Mechanic named "Update IPTC/XMP."  for syncing the metadata between RAW+JPG pairs.

The slash in the name may have broken the link to that section. Try this:

That works perfect for synchronizing the IPTC data, but no such luck with the GPS coordinates. Any other advice?

BUT: GPS coordinates still fail to do so. In this case the JPG files have the GPS coordinates. I want to transfer those coordinates to the RAW files.
So the question remains: how to import / update / synchronize GPS data? My RAW files are Canon CR2 files.

BUT: GPS coordinates still fail to do so. In this case the JPG files have the GPS coordinates. I want to transfer those coordinates to the RAW files.

GPS coordinates are stored in the EXIF data of image files.  PM does not offer a tool for transferring EXIF data from one image format to another.

Perhaps it would be simpler to do the same procedure you did before with the JPEGs and your tab-separated text file?

But then I still have the problem of how to batch import the GPS coordinates to the RAW. Exporting them from JPG to a tab seperated txt file is no problem.

OK, maybe I'm missing something then.  How did you get your GPS coordinates into your JPEGs in the first place?  Can't you repeat that procedure?

I added the GPS coordinates manually to the JPG's. I don't want to repeat that exercise when there is the possibility of automation. At least, I hope.

There are no other options in PM for doing what you're wanting to do.

Another tool like ExifTool could do it, but it is command-line based and you would have to write scripts to automate it.

I finally found out how to solve my problem..

With geosetter I can synchronize almost all Metadata between JPG en RAW..
