Old images without XMP
« on: March 26, 2015, 06:50:28 AM »
I'm cleaning up some old PM edits - I have NEF + JPG's, if I delete the jpg I loose the caption info. (already lost a lot with out knowing) before I had xmp files on (I guess) What is the best way to handle this - I would like to delete the jpgs.

Use the "Update IPTC/XMP" command on the Tools menu:

2 questions - Is there any way to run this on a large group on contact sheets (folders)?

occasionally the colors still don't show up in LR even after running the update - Any Ideas?

You can open up multiple folders in a single contact sheet tab and then run the tool.

Are you telling LR to read the metadata from the files after they're updated?

These images were NOT imported to LR till now after the XPM update. so LR is reading them after they are updated. I am seeing that LR is slow to see the info and some color code are seen later much later. and some colors show up faster.

In my culling process only color coded images go into LR it seem the 4/blues get seen before the yellows - ODD.

From a batch I imported 2 days ago the blue & Purples have a color in LR the yellows do not - To make sure I Updated the xmp info on the yellows - nothing. then I changed one of the to blue - it immediately show up! When I change it back to yellow - it shows as no color!

I don't think this has anything to do with PM BUT....

Are you sure you have the colours configured exactly same in PM and LR?

Yes- It's very odd - I'm testing a gallery now with 59 images 36 green the rest have NO label in LR but 54 are green in PM 2 yellow 2 blue then even more oddly LR will sort by color - But if the try to filter for only green LR tells me there are NONE.
To see if my time theory had anything to do with it - I left it for a few hours - no change!

Do these old images have embedded IPTC/XMP?  If so you may want to try stripping the embedded metadata.  You can use the "Revert TIFF-based RAW to original" tool for this purpose:
