Sony sd cards do not autoingest
« on: May 24, 2021, 09:30:46 AM »
Hi

Running 2019 mbp 16inch with Big Sur and photoMechanic V6 build 578.

There is a problem autoingesting Sony Sd cards.

I have no problem with a variety of Sandisk cards but specifically, Sony G 64gb xc II cards do not autoingest.

Many thanks

Peter

What reader are you using?

Can you type this in the Terminal:

  diskutil info {Volume}

where {Volume} is something like "/Volumes/Untitled" (the mount point of the name of your card)

If it says "Removable Media: Fixed" in this report then it is likely due to the reader incorrectly reporting the media as fixed instead of removable.

PM will not auto-ingest "fixed" media (and also will not erase after ingest).

Are you sure this wasn't a CFExpress-A card?

I have this described problem with a Lexar reader and a Sandisk reader.

The problem is that the Sony cards do not auto ingest and all other cards function as expected.

In addition, the Volume containing the Sony card does not appear in the vertical  "Finder" column in photomechanic. Other brands of cards appear in this column as expected.

Browsing a Sony card within Photomechanic is now impssible; the only action available is to select file/Ingest....and then browse what has been copied to the computer.

Below please see two diskutil info reports from terminal.
Untitled 1 is a Sony card.
NO NAME is a Sandisk card.

peters-MacBook-Pro:~ peter$ diskutil info {Volumes/Untitled 1}
Usage:  diskutil info[rmation] [-plist]
        MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode|UUID | -all
Display detailed information about a disk or partition.
Root or administrator access is not required.
peters-MacBook-Pro:~ peter$

peters-MacBook-Pro:~ peter$ diskutil info {Volume/NO NAME
Usage:  diskutil info[rmation] [-plist]
        MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode|UUID | -all
Display detailed information about a disk or partition.
Root or administrator access is not required.
peters-MacBook-Pro:~ peter$

Both these cards behave completely normally in all other applications; there is only a problem with Photomechanic.

Many thanks,

Peter

Peter,

Please try this updated build: https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanic6R5884_bb8e8c67.dmg

In our testing, it works well with Sony CFExpress type A and SD cards.

Thankyou Kirk.

This updated build displays the Sony cards as a volume within photo mechanic.

Auto ingest however does not yet seem to be working.

Is your macOS (Big Sur) up-to-date?

Peter,

Big Sur 11.3, so one off the most recent version which is 11.4

There's some significant fixes in the 11.4 update that improve Photo Mechanic's ability to see disks.

I have updated to Big Sur 11.4 and can confirm that the build of Photo mechanic you recommended earlier in this thread now performs auto ingest on Sony SD cards.

It also displays Sony cards in the sidebar of photo mechanic.

To avoid the dead time associated with troubleshooting which update of which operating system or software application causes conflicts that lead to an inability to do use work tools, I will not update my macos or photomechanic until either one or other of them stop working.

Thanks

Peter

Thanks for following up.  You're the second user to confirm that macOS 11.4 fixes some issues with camera cards.

We always recommend sticking with the last macOS (fully updated) before moving on to the next macOS unless you absolutely need to upgrade.
