Variables in IPTC not saved
« on: June 30, 2019, 08:25:57 PM »
Hi, I can put variables in the Description/Caption field such as date, location etc and it works fine. I move through each photo and the info is there.

However I put variables "object" & "title" in the Headline field to copy what I have typed into the Title/Object Name field and the variable symbols are there when I save that IPTC Info but when I go to use it, the variables are not there in each photo.

Only way I can get it to work is to copy those two variables and then past them into the Headline field before saving and moving to the next photo. If I go back, it has worked and copied the text from the Title/Object Name into the Headline field!

Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way to copy the information from one field to another?

Thanks for any assistance offered.
Malcolm

Thanks.  Are you using the IPTC Info dialog for this or the IPTC Stationery Pad dialog?

Malcolm,

ITPC Stationary pad.

Interesting.  You also said:

In the IPTC Stationery Pad there is no way to move on to the next photo.  Are you sure you're not using the IPTC Info dialog instead?

The IPTC Stationery Pad is for bulk applying metadata to a set of photos.  The IPTC Info dialog is for editing metadata on a single photo at a time.

Anyhow, here is the documentation for the IPTC Stationery Pad and IPTC Info dialogs:
