Sync found images missed by Scan
« on: November 28, 2020, 01:49:03 AM »
I created a brand new catalog and proceeded with a scan (just one folder path on a hard-wired external drive). When it finished, the scan showed 8890 images. I did nothing else to that catalog after the scan, I didn't even browse it.

The next day I was looking at the ‘Sync Catalogs’ feature. I had never used it before so I selected the new catalog a ran the sync just to see how it worked. When it finished I was surprised to see it found 13 new images that were previously not scanned, for a total of 8903.

The thing is, between the initial scan yesterday and the sync today, I never touched that archive. In fact I haven’t added to it or modified it or even looked at it in long time. I had a look at the ‘new’ files it found, and they were definitely not new.

No idea how those files could have been missed in the first place.

What are the names of the files?

I just noticed that the 13 files that didn't get scanned initially all have a "é" in the file name.

So for future reference, is the fact that é caused a scan issue a PM bug, or do I need to avoid using such characters in in the future?

'Sync Catalogs' creating duplicates
« Reply #5 on: December 21, 2020, 10:22:44 PM »
Update on my original post...

I originally thought that  ‘Sync Catalogs’ had found 13 files that 'Scan To Catalog' missed. But I discovered that in fact ‘Sync Catalogs’ is adding 13 duplicates to my catalog. I have done this procedure twice now and got the same results both times. Here are the steps:

I scan the archive from scratch and end up with 8890 images.
If I bring up a contact sheet containing the 13 images in question, I see 13 images... so far so good.
Now I run ‘Sync Catalogs’ and the number of images jumps to 8903... clearly not correct.
Checking the sync log reveals that 13 images from 2 different folders were added to the archive. The 13 files added just happen to be the only 13 files in the archive that use the character é in the filename.
Now if I bring up a contact sheet containing the 13 images in question, I see 26 images, 2 thumbnails for each image.

I saved a text file of the sync log if you want to see it.

Please try this build: http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=13890.0

NOTE: Important, you'll need to select all of the duplicate images (don't try to guess which are the originals and which are the duplicates, select all of the sets) and remove them from your catalog(s) with your existing build.  Then download the new build.  Then do a Quick Catalog Sync.  Follow it with another Quick Catalog Sync.  If there are no duplicates, then the problem has been fixed.  If there still are duplicates, then there's more work to be done.  Please let us know.

Thanks,

-Kirk
