Problem with the tracking of the 4 icons on the thumbnails
« on: February 18, 2021, 07:06:20 AM »
Hello Kirk,

I have a problem with the tracking of the 4 icons on the thumbnails.
It works well with vertical mouse movement but not horizontal.
You have to go very slowly, wait for the icons to disappear, so that the icons appear on the next thumbnail.
I have this problem with my iMac 27" 5K and not with my MacBookPro 15" (default low screen, 1440 × 900, from 2012).
Photo Mechanic Plus Version 6.0, build 5560 (6e1b8a6)
Attached video...

Problem at home?

Thanks a lot...

Thanks for the video.  I cannot reproduce it on my system, but it doesn't have a 5K screen.  Does it make any difference if you change the size of the thumbnails?  Does the problem come and go or is an always present problem?

Problem at home?

Things are going fine here, thanks.

Yes, the problem persists...
Except that it works better with a large interval between thumbnails, so the icons have the time to stop appearing and to be displayed on the next thumbnail.

Oups, sorry, I meant that maybe it was a problem with my system...  ;)
My mouse is a Logitech G502 Lightspeed, that works with their "G HUB" software, I thought that might be the cause of my problem...
even though I hadn't noticed anything weird so far!

 ;)

Edit: I just tried with the Photo Mechanic Plus R5376 version, same problem, ditto with Photo mechanic 6, ditto with the Apple mouse...
When I select "Show info Tooltips", the superimposed information window follows the mouse correctly, unlike the "4 icons" which are not displayed.

So...
After a few adjustments of my mouse (number of informations sent to the computer down from 1000 to 125, speed up from 1800ppp to 1000ppp) it's better, it's not perfect yet... but it's ok...
Considering the size of the screen, you still need a "fast" mouse to comfortably scan the whole screen...
It's as if PM6+ was doing something else than monitoring the mouse movement... it lacks fluidity...

If the team could improve this, it would be great...

Have a nice day

Dub,

Please try this build: https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanicPlusR5597_b6ff8fa3.dmg

Move the mouse around and reproduce the problem and then generate the logs.  Go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Dub,

Thanks.  I have added some more logging.  Can you try this build? https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanicPlusR5598_8f488e13.dmg

Could you also make note of the numbers on the thumbnails that you managed to get the buttons to not appear, please?  They should be printed in red on the thumbnails.

The least amount of mouse movement that reproduces the problem is best.  Please post the zipped PM log when you can.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks for the logs, Dub.

At 07:16:00.608 I see it is drawing the buttons at cell 19.  Then you wiggle the mouse around a bit on cell 19 and pause for 21 seconds, and then wiggle some more (3 seconds) and move to cell 20 which then draws the buttons.

But you're not seeing the buttons on cell 19 for all of that time, correct?

That is certainly strange.  The drawing is occurring but is not making it on screen.

Why it would be sensitive to horizontal movement and not vertical movement is very puzzling.

Hello Kirk,

Yes, I did that on purpose and you understood that.  ;)

Yes, really strange !!!

I remain at your disposal if you want to make other tests... don't hesitate....  ;)

Kirk, I did another test...
When the buttons don't appear, if I click at the supposed location of the icons, the buttons appear and their function is applied.
(Info, magnifying glass, rotation)

If it helps...

Edit:I post a short movie with this test and you'll see that it works better with the new settings of my mouse and slightly larger thumbnails.

Make sure your graphics drivers are fully up-to-date. I have had similar problems in the past with bad video drivers. Sometimes new drivers are faulty too so if you recently updated your driver's then maybe going to an older one may help.

Hello Keith,

Thanks but I'm on Mac and there are no other updates than Apple System Updates.

The only thing that has changed on my Mac are the security updates of February 1st and 9th.

But it would be nice to get feedback from other PM6+ users on iMac 5K / Mojave, to know if they have these issues... or not  ???

I have just tested by setting the display to 1600x900... and it works perfectly, 2048x1152 too... the more I increase the resolution the less the display follows the mouse...
My iMac is a bit "old" (End of 2015, Core i5 3,3GHz, Radeon R9 M395 2Gb, 24Gb ram)... but still  :D :D :D

 ;)

Edit: In full resolution (5120x2880), the icon display also malfunctions when moving vertically.
(Just for information, the normal working resolution is 2560x1440.)
