Wrong Preview?
« on: November 11, 2021, 06:41:05 AM »
I am using PM Plus build 6097 on a 2019 15" MacBook Pro running MacOS 11.6.1 (Big Sur).

I recently added a Sony camera to my Nikon lineup and enabled using Adobe DNG converter so that the Sony files would display larger in Preview.

I recently edited some Nikon Z6 files using Nikon's NX Studio. When I do that, I have Studio save teh file changes to teh original NEF, instead of to a Side car. I then export a JPG from Studio for posting, or whatever.

Now, when I look at the files in PM+ the following happens when the files are combined for viewing:
  • In the contact sheet, the image displayed is the JPG with the edits.
  • In the Preview window, the image displayed is the unedited NEF.

Is there a preference that I am missing to have the Preview window display the JPG?

If not, is there smoother change that I need to make in my preferences?

Are your images online or offline?

OK, then it's the Adobe DNG Converter that is rendering your NEFs and it doesn't know anything about your Nikon NX Studio settings and just renders it the way it sees fit.  There is currently no way to have the RAW Rendering enabled and have it not apply to specific file types.

That OK Kirk, But when I am in tehthepreview window, why does not show the NEF instead for the JPG? In the contact sheet it show the JPG instead of the NEF.

I'm assuming it's because the RAW Rendering is turned on.  Try turning it off and see if it makes a difference.  If the problem persists, then please share with me your RAW file and your JPEG file so that I can investigate.

Your Sony previews will be small again.  But you should gain a lot of browsing speed.

Thanks, Kirk.

Maybe someday an option to turn on raw rendering for only certain file types...
