HEIC images from iphone 16 not displayed

Previous versions of HEIC from older cameras, display, but from the new iPhone 16 the images are not being displayed. Apple wouldn't be changing things would they?

This is on a Mac laptop running version macOS 14.6.1 .

What build of Photo Mechanic Plus are you using?  The latest builds all show your sample picture just fine.

I tested build 7212 (version 6), and build 7578 (All-in-One) with your image on macOS Ventura and they both worked.

I will also see if that image works under Ventura, but not Sonoma.

Just tried the latest 7212 version with Ventura and that also did not like  the second file. I think the first file I sent you was from photos which filtered out GPS data perhaps.

I just verified that the picture exported from photos (without the GPS data) works fine. But the second picture I sent you straight from the camera sort has problems.

If picture exported from photos application with no modification, i.e. just the original image, then there are problems displaying the HEIC pic.  If the picture is exported through Photos application with GPS data or without it then there are no display problems.

There's a bit difference between the original picture and one exported through the Photos app. Maybe a few bits difference.

Build 7765 and the Universal Binary beta 5 render the second image without issue.  PM 6 (and Plus) do not.

What does this mean? Will PM plus ever work with these images?

I have been out of touch with all the recent changes.

Just a FYI:

I have an old macOS system, 32 bit, version 10.14.6, which does handle these new images quite well.

So its probably not the HEIC image format, but probably the PM+ HEIC software package bundled within.
