Slideshow issue
« on: June 12, 2025, 10:57:03 PM »
Hello Kirk,

I've noticed that I can't start a slideshow in the latest PM version on my Mac Studio (Apple M4 Max) – see screenshot 1. The screen goes black, but the images don't appear. When I exit slideshow mode, the window somehow remains open and still shows up on the desktop/finder (screenshot 2).

On my MacBook Pro (M1 Pro) – also running the latest PM version – the slideshow works as expected.

Both machines are running macOS Sequoia 15.5 (24F74).

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

The requested ZIP file is attached below.

Unfortunately, nothing related to the Slide Show logged any messages.  If you have time, download the attached file and place it in Photo Mechanic's preferences folder.  You can get to this folder by creating a new Finder window and then using the "Go to folder..." command on the "Go" menu in the Finder.  Enter the following in the dialog window that appears:

~/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic

Then copy the attached file there and restart Photo Mechanic.  Try to use the Slide Show.  Then produce the log file as you did before and post it in your reply.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Did you open and close the Slide Show twice during that run, or only once?

What kind of display does your Mac Studio (Apple M4 Max) have?  Can you take a screenshot of the System Settings showing the display's settings and post it here, please?

Thanks,

-Kirk

You're right, I believe I may have started the slideshow twice.

Looks like you have two displays.  If you move the Slide Show settings dialog to the other display, and then start the slide show, does it still fail to function properly?

No, it's the same behavior on the second screen too.

OK, I'll have to add some more logging and make you a build to test with.

Please don’t spend too much time on this issue on my account. I just happened to notice it, and it’s not a function I often need on the Mac Studio. The slideshow works flawlessly on the MacBook Pro, and it’s a feature I use more frequently when working on the go.

At this point you're the only user of the latest Photo Mechanic 2025 with the problem, but I expect that there will be others.  It would be best if I can solve it for you since it will likely solve the problem for others.

Hi Kirk

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, the slideshow is still not working on the Mac Studio. The log file is attached below. I started the slideshow three times (including on both monitors).

Hi Kirk

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, the slideshow is still not working on the Mac Studio. The log file is attached below. I started the slideshow three times (including on both monitors).

I did nothing to attempt a fix.  I just added more logging to help me find the source of the problem.

In all of the runs, the Slide Show ran for two to four seconds.  Is the Slide Show ending on its own or are you pressing a key (like Escape) or are you closing the Slide Show window with your mouse click on the close box of the Slide Show window?

Thanks,

-Kirk
