Read Metadata from File in lightroom resets picture develop changes

My Normal work flow is as follows.

Ingest the card via PM6 ...

Select the images i require

Caption the images i intend using.

I then edit the images in my selected editing programs.. in this case  Lightroom Classic
On Occasions i have gone back to PM to add additional captioning via PM. in this case the word AMENDMENT

Then back to light room and select read Metadata from file.  This then add the metadata, but cancels out any adjustments I have made to the image.

Can you get me the XMP sidecar file before you added "AMMENDMENTS", and then again after you added and saved from PM6?

Make a copy before you add your text in PM6.  Then post the copy and the updated XMP files.

Neither XMP file has Lightroom settings.

Are you choosing the option in Lightroom to save metadata to file prior to making metadata changes in PM? This will save your Lightroom edits to the file so it will be retained after making metadata changes in PM.

I have found that by ticking the automatically write changes to xmp ,in lightroom Catalogue it does not affect the editing settings in Lightroom when i add additional Metadata.  But apparently it i supposed to slow down Lightroom so will have to keep an eye on it.

If you don't get your settings into the files on disk and you have PM update them, then you'll lose your edits when you force LR to use the updated XMP data.  This behavior is expected and isn't PM's fault.

what would be the correct way then to not lose or modify information:
1-In PM select the photos.

2-Go to LG and edit those images.

3- Finally return to PM to send via FTP, the finished photos?

The key thing that has to happen is that you have to get Lightroom to update the XMP sidecar file metadata with the changes you made in Lightroom.  That would be step 2.5 in your list of steps above.

It works fine now with by my following the strap above.  Go to catalogue settings and click automatically update xmp.

when you update the metadata via read metadata from file it will not effect affect any edits made in lightoom.
