Photo Mechanic and multi user remote access
« on: December 02, 2013, 11:27:40 AM »
Hi,

I have a server where I plan to install Photo Mechanic to be accessed from remote. Mostly by only one user, but It may happen that I need three people to access it at the same time. I assume this will require some licenses, but the question is if it will work?

The users will not log into virtual machines, but to the same session, using the same instance of Photo Mechanic. Is this tested?

The reason for this setup is that running PM locally from remote will be way to slow even on 100Mb/s internet connections....with our setup, only the remote screen needs to be updated.

(I tried running the demo verison of PM from remote and that work nicely, but loggin in more than one user I gets a message to contact Camerabits for licensing.)

I just found out that Kirk say it is possible, and that I have to buy a special multi- user license:

However, when I talk to Camera Bits sales they say that it does not exist....... however, it looks like it does and I want it...;-)

Can I?

Are you running Microsoft Windows Terminal Server?

We no longer offer the feature that sets an active user limit.

How are you remotely logging in?

Yes I am using the RDP in Windows Server 2012 R2, think that is aTerminal Services. We dont run virtualized machines on the server, just logging in to the desktop as different users.

I am happy to pay for more licences if this is technically possible, seems like PM can do it but senses a licens violation?

Any chance to get this working? Dont like the idea of using another program for image browsing on the server, PM is the best!

Specifically, what error are you getting when you try to run multiple instances?  Please post a screen shot.

And how many instances are you looking to run simultaneously?

Thanks,

Hi Kirk,

I dont get an error, just a message box to contact Camera Bits for licensing, exactly as the user in this thread, see screenshot here:

http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=4801.msg21952#msg21952

I also have installed PM 4.6 using my old licence, and get exactly the same message then.

We want to be able to run 3 simultaneous users. We have one PM5 licence and one PM4.6 license.

Let me talk with the rest of the team about resurrecting that capability.  It will require you to have three licenses of PM5.  So you'll have to purchase one upgrade to PM5 and one PM5 license.

Is that acceptable?  Don't go ahead and purchase them though, please.

Hi Kirk, that would be great!

I think the PM5 license is already an upgrade from the 4.6 so I can buy 2 new licens, or even 3 if you like....;-)

We will have 3 users in total, sometimes local on 3 client machines, sometimes remote rundning on the server.

Let me know if you need help with testning it!

Petter,

Hi Kirk, any news on this? Should I pay anythink now?

We're going to add in the ability again.  I'm pressed on fixing these performance issues people have reported recently though.  I'll try to get something together this week or early next week.
