Automating DNG conversion
« on: February 12, 2015, 03:18:18 AM »
It would be helpful if we users could simplify the conversion of Raw files using Adobe DNG Converter.

At the moment, it takes several key presses and mouse clicks. Can we please have it made automatic on ingestion or, if not, put on to an icon or hot key for easy activation?

Thanks,

Conversion to DNG on ingestion as an option would be worthwhile.

I would suggest that the original RAW files, in my case NEFs, would go to the backup folder while the DNG converted files go directly to the main folder if that is feasable.

As an option, I'd agree. I'd want both types in both places (and a third).

Adding a third destination is not likely something we'll do.

That's what comes of trying to be brief. Here's what was in my head:

"I'd want both types in both places (and unless I also put them in a third place, they'd not be properly backed up anyway)."

Hadn't intended to suggest that PM do it for me. Sorry for misleading you.

I would like to see this as well. I used to use a program call image ingester to do just that. But it is no longer being activly developed and with windows 10 on the horizon I didn't want to invest anymore time into the program. So I bought PM to do my culling, captioning, ingesting and rating.  This lack of converting to DNG on ingestation was the only feature that gave me second thoughts about PM.

However, the reputation was so solid and development was on going, so I bit the bullet.  I also noticed that with just the mention of dng conversion and exporting settings  in the forum, the features were added. That is something I rarely see. I believe I have finally found the missing link in my work flow.

I agree with judophotos.  Ingest the raw files to backup and dng to primary storage for use with lightroom.

Although image ingester did a third location it would not be necessary for me. My images are in a folder that syncs with a synology cloud station. This gives me my third and offsite copies.

I think that this is a great idea!

Stacking of raws and dngs in combination with that would make pm even neater.

I wouldn't buy an upgrade just for those features though...
