Hi,
I have recently started to convert my NEF-files to DNG and it seems that I have a problem about PM being able to find them when I search in keywords.
When I have converted them in ACR they are "gone" and I have to update them in the tool "update IPTC/XMP"-tool. OK!
Then when I have a contact sheet with search result and edit some of them in ACR, they are missing from the search. If I go back to the original folder and update them again they are back in the search result.
I know PM is using Spotlight to do the searching so is it a problem there or can I make some changes in preferences? Or update my PM?
I am using PM 4.4.3.3 and Mac OS 10.4.11 on MacBookPro.

Are you embedding IPTC/IPTC4XMP or are you using XMP Sidecar files?

If you view a converted DNG file with the IPTC Info dialog, do you see your Keywords?

Spotlight does not associate XMP sidecar files with any particular image file (as far as I know it doesn't even index them.)

If you don't use the Update IPTC/XMP tool at all, do you see your keywords in your DNG files?  When you do run the Update IPTC/XMP tool, what files are you running it on?  The NEFs or the DNGs?

I have done some tests and all the keywords and captions are there in DNG but when I search, PM can´t find the file. Only when I update it shows in search result.
Then when I open the DNG in ACR and close it again the file is lost again in the search result.

Are you any closer regarding my DNG-problems? I have tried various combinations in preferences but has not been able to fix it.

If you use the Spotlight tool in the upper right corner of your screen and search for some keywords known to be contained in a specific DNG file, does Spotlight give you any results?

Sadly it is the same. If I don't update the DNG after editing Spotlight can't find it :(
So it is in Spotlight the problem is. It can't handle DNG. Strange.

Yes, I don't think Spotlight indexes DNG files for metadata.

Does anyone in this great forum knows about a searchtool that works on mac. I have tried CDFinder as suggested in an other tread, but it uses Spotlight so it is the same problem there.
Lightroom??

What do you mean by "before updating the file?"  What process needs to be done to the file such that Spotlight then indexes it?

It seems that Spotlight actually do index DNG. All captions written in PM before and after converting to DNG can be found in a second.
As soon as the DNG has been opened i ACR the file is lost for searcing. Then as soon as I have done the "Update IPTC/XMP" on the "lost" DNG, we are back in business.

Just opening the DNG in ACR causes it to no longer be indexed?  Or do you have to make some sort of modification to it with ACR?

OK, so when it is gone, does PM still see the IPTC/XMP metadata in the file or is it truly gone until you use the Update IPTC/XMP tool on it?
